Salinas - Laura Marling - A Creature I Don’t Know
I know I’m pretty late to the game with Ms. Marling here, but it’s better late than never. I had an aversion to listening to her due to my love of Noah and The Whale. Once upon a time, this little lady was the girlfriend of Noah and The Whale frontman, Charlie Fink. You may remember her from the female vocals on NaTW’s staple single, “5 Years Time”. However, when their relationship ended, so did their collaboration. Fink was devastated and went on to write one of my favorite albums of all time The First Days of Spring. Laura went on to become a UK folk star. Her debut album Alas I Cannot Swim showed the airwaves that this little lady could sing. Her sophomore album I Speak Because I Can showed the airwaves she could sing AND write well beyond her young age. This album is just an incredible piece of work. A little dark in it’s tone with a constant forward motion, it’s truly hard to find any filler songs on this piece. Also, the musicality is just candy to the ears. This track is easily one of the highlights of the piece, enjoy.
For A Nightingale - Fionn Regan - 100 Acres of Sycamore
Making a mix cd for a pretty lady makes me rediscover awesome songs like this one. Summer is upon us. So close, so close.
I Was Once a Loyal Lover - Death Cab for Cutie - The Open Door
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Death Cab in their greatest state or poeticism. Let me say, for an EP…not to shabby at all. Give it a listen, it’s alot of fun.
Lover, You Should’ve Come Over - Jeff Buckley - Grace
Thank god for this album, thank god for this song. God rest your soul Jeff.
Woman King - Iron & Wine - Woman King
Been stuck on this song for a few days. Like I said way back when, Sam Beam can do no wrong. Enjoy this personal favorite.
Carry On - fun.
Young The Giant - Cough Syrup
Huge soft spot with this song. Honestly can’t get enough of it. Judge me.
Best angry song ever.
1 2 3 4 - Feist - The Reminder
Well, wow. It’s been awhile. Sorry for the delay in my posting…I’m in long distance footrace with life right now and life is winning. However, I’m long overdo for a classic on this page. I give you the smooth stylings of Leslie Feist (aka Feist). Her second studio album Let it Die was a surprise hit in the airwaves. Her smooth, clear as a glass of water voice along with her indie pop/folk sound made her an instant icon in the underground. She then released a mix and collaboration album known as Open Season that did well too. The album this incredibly familiar song comes from is undoubtedly her most relaxed and care free piece. Songs made for quiet nights and lazy afternoons that so elegantly fill up space like a cool mist on a hot summer day. Do yourself a favor and tilt your head back, close your eyes and paint pictures in your mind to this album. Enjoy!
